UpCircle is a fantastic company that reuses, repurposes and upcycles leftover by-products from other industries that would otherwise be disposed of, and turns them into amazing quality beauty products.
They are an extremely ethically-focused and sustainable company, and are proudly vegan, cruelty-free, palm oil-free and ocean friendly, and their products are all natural and handmade in the UK in 100% recyclable packaging.
It started in 2015 when the founders (a brother and sister duo) decided to take leftover coffee grounds from cafes and restaurants around London and turned them into high-performing and luxurious face and body scrubs. They didn't stop there though; they now use a variety of ingredients that would otherwise be overlooked, and have created a whole collection of products that challenge the norms by taking ingredients that are typically viewed as waste products and totally transforming them. Some examples of this are:
- Coffee grounds collected from over 100 small chain and independent coffee shops across London are used in their exfoliators and face serum.
- Powdered fruit stones, such as olive stones that are a by-product of making olive oil, are used in their face mask.
- Argan shells that are a by-product of making argan oil are used in their face moisturiser.
- Date seed extract, which is a by-product of date farming, is used in their body cream.
- Mandarin fruit water, a by-product of making juice concentrates, is used in their face toner.
Not only are ethics and values at the company's heart, an ability to create truly great quality products is also in the company's head, which is a winning combination. Their products are all luxurious, high-quality and pampering. As they say on their website: "you shouldn't have to choose between doing the right thing and getting the best results."
